Get a Jump on Spring

With daylight savings time ( if you’re still in a state that observes it) right around the corner that means days are getting longer, warmer, and we are coming out of the winter *mostly*  unscathed. We might have had a few meltdowns, fallen off track a bit, or maybe just decided to take a break from some things in life and that’s ok! However, now it’s time to get back on track. A break does not mean that we are totally ruined, or that we failed at our goals. It just means we did what we needed at the time, and now what we need to do is get it back together and get back at it with a renewed vigor! An interruption doesn’t ruin progress, however if that interruption becomes a habit or lifestyle then it’s a problem. But! Even if you’ve never been on track, never had a solid schedule, and just want to start now then here are my tips for getting back together.

Firstly I want to say that I am writing this today because I am also gathering myself after winter and getting back on my goals. I’ve personally been a bit scattered with my routine and honestly it doesn’t feel good. So I needed a little jump start today- and here’s what I’ve always done for that, what I did this weekend, and what you can do also:

1- Organize your environment. Mess=Stress, and it’s hard to get yourself and your routine on track when you are constantly looking for things and feel like you live in a thrift store. Make sure everything has a place, and get a good cleaning going while you’re at it. It’s stressful- ask my boyfriend I had a full on meltdown while rearranging my apartment this weekend, but it felt SO GOOD to wake up this morning and know where everything is, and enjoy my coffee in a nice clean apartment instead of slugging back coffee and going “I’ve got to get my shit together.” Also, organize your thoughts. Make a to-do list daily. Instead of just having ideas rattling around in the space between your ears, put them down in a list. And put seemingly silly things on there that you know you’re going to do like “shower” or eat lunch. Crossing those off gives up a little boost of happy and that becomes inspiring to cross more things off.

2- Organize your days-make a schedule. Routine helps us mentally and physically.  Think about it critically, and make sure you are making things that actually work for you and not just “In a perfect world.” Because my dears no one’s world is, or ever will be, perfect. What time should you wake up to give yourself enough time to do what is needed in the morning? What time should you cut off for the day- not necessarily go to sleep- and set work and projects aside to have a more restful evening before bed? Schedule in time for things that are important like meals and exercise. Write it as an appointment with yourself and don’t cancel on yourself. Here’s mine:
5am (ish) Wake

6:00-7:30am Snack, Cardio, Breakfast, Journal, French Lesson

8am- Noon- Work

Noon-2pm- Lunch, Weights, Walk Dog

2pm-6(ish)- Work. CUT OFF BY 7.

*Protip- this will look different for everyone, but start first by writing down all ABSOLUTE appointments- not things that you usually do or want to do, but everything that has a weekly absolute time and place like work, etc. Then fill in everything else using priority- what is most important to you. Then with what’s left write things you’d like to do. I bet you’ll find more time than you thought you had.

3- Organize your future. Make a List of Goals. Write them down, and put them in a prominent place. Writing them down is about bringing them to life- the practice of manifestation; Putting them in a prominent place is about accountability. Be specific, realistic, and set time lines. You can even do multiple sets- weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. It really helps.

I hope you find this helpful. I reassess these every so often, and I really find that when I am able to keep these going things almost magically seem to happen. I achieve what I want, my days are more fulfilling, and I am in a better mental and physical state. Be well yall!
